Back in high school, I started a livejournal. I was living in Grosse Pointe at the time, and cut off from most of the people I knew from school in Detroit. Most of my time was taken up in a church youth group, with a lot of kids from surrounding suburban areas. Being that I had a violent streak growing up, and it was my aunts’ church, I needed to find an outlet for all of my angst.

Writing on the Wolf’s Walls is Satirical Journalism, it’s an autobiographical account of a city kids’ experience in the suburbs as he comes of age and goes off to college. Of course, I was my first subject. The hard part was in staying objective, as the suburbs was considered privileged territory for a kid from the Eastside of Detroit. I took cues from 7th Heaven, The Sandman, Watchmen, Full House, Dawson’s Creek and a lot of other shows that were popular amongst suburban teens at the time. The funny part is in the comments, where most of my readers had no clue that this was my first satire. It was originally intended to serve as my writing sample to submit along with my resume for a job in editorial somewhere. It was an interesting ride.
